Volumio 3 RC1 - Open Beta Testing

It’s bugged, you disable I2C DAC and select it via the dropdown menu after, it’s named snd_rpi_hifiberry_digi in there.

hifiberrydigibug

There is a new problem in 3.129 that wasn’t there in 3.114: it seems to lose the connection to my USB DAC. If I have not used it a while (the DAC was off in between) and then want to play again, it shows an error that the ALSA device cannot be opened.
In Settings, trying to set the DAC causes it to disappear from the dropdown, then re-appear.
Was only able to solve this with reboot and repeatedly selecting the output device again.

PI4 + Topping D70s - never had any issues like this in 2.x and 3.114

Next time it happens I’ll try to send the logs.

Thanks for your hints Ash.
I did some of what you suggested with this:

HiFiBerry have told me that the DIGI2 Pro and the DIGI+ Pro can be treated as the same. I have had no success in Volumio with the DIGI+ setting, ALSA errors. I checked my HAT with HiFiBerryOS and and it works ok but it is no way a suitable alternative. :worried:

Dear all, the following problem:
My MP3 collection is tagged with “artist”; “albumartist” only in cases where I thought that it is needed, e.g. “Various Artists” for Samplers.
When I do now search for an album Volumio finds it (of course  ). But when I click on the album found, it does NOT resolve to the titles of the album but shows “no items”. That behaviour occurs in each an every case the album mp3s are not tagged with album “albumartist” on top. When I add “albumartist” in the mp3 tags, Volumio finds the album and IS able to resolve the titles as well.
Is this behaviour really intended?
By the way, switching from “album” to “albumartist” in the preferences does not change it.

PS: I am using version 3.111 beta with a AZW Z83 II mini PC, with a Quad Core Atom x5-Z8350 with 2 MB Cache, 2 GB DDR3 RAM, 32GB eMMC System Disk, Intel HD Graphics 400, Realtek Gigabit LAN (RTL8168/8111G), Broadcom WiFi adapter (AP6255 + AP6212), BT 4.0 and a Realtek ALC5651 audio chip.

Update on my Airplay issue: I reported that this feature wasn’t working but now I may have found the culprit. I noticed that my RPi was using both ethernet and wifi at the same time, although I was sure that I had disconnected the wifi already. I tried to disconnect it again and it took several attempts for the change to be registered (this seems to be the real bug!). I tried Airplay after that and it worked straight away. This change in settings also cleared up a few other behaviours such as:

  • extremely slow loading of album covers in album view
  • radio stations very slow to connect or unresponsive

Hope that helps.

Hi

First let’s say that I like very much the new version (Volumio 3). Works very well with my HIRES collection and also with Spotify Connect.

But I subscribed to Tidal 3 days ago and when I use Connect, PLAY does not work well: after 1 or 2 songs, it stops. On my android phone the icon would be spinning as if waiting for something. If I skip to the next song, playing would resume but not all the time. Tidal (without Connect) works very well when using BT/earphones and also with Chromecast (not using Volumio).

I first tought there was some conflict between Tidal Connect and Tidal “connected” setup. So I disconnected Tidal on Volumio and only kept Connect toggle on but saw no improvement.

I need to take some time and produce a log file … sorry but not my confort zone … slight_smile …

Am I the only one with this issue ? I saw some similarr comments but but not exactly the same behaviour. As I am new with Volumio, I was wondering if I miissed something with my setup.

I’m using RPI4 + Topping Dx7 PRO /USB connection.

Back laterr with a log

Thanks

Even if it doesn’t solve this particular issue, it looks much cleaner, and should be more efficient!

Hi

So I finally reproduced my issue with Tidal (it took a while … usually I get it much faster).
http://logs.volumio.org/volumiobuster/YlrOO0e.html

My steps:

  1. Restart Volumio
  2. Open Tidal on Android phone (v11)
  3. Select Dido Greatest hits Deluxe edition (“Master”
  4. Start playing
  5. Select Volumio “Bureau” in Tidal Connect list
  6. Playing song appears in Volumio web interface
  7. Continue playing for a long time
  8. Inexpectedly stops at the end of a song
  9. Next song appears stopped in Volumio
  10. Press next : next song starts playing

Thanks for having a look.

Michel P.

Just noticed … when I sent the log I mentionned a Topping Dx7 PRO but I actually did the test on my second system which uses a SMSL M8A … I do get the same behaviour on both systems.

Sorry for misleading you on this point.

Michel P.

Additional notes:

Additional beviour

http://logs.volumio.org/volumiobuster/d9COpLU.html

Once it stopped, Volumio has difficulties recovering and shows additional behaviours:

a. I get no sound but Volumio shows the song being played
b. Pausing/restarting does not bring back the sound
c. Forwarding to the next song does not correct the situation

It looks like the situation worsen but if I go to my library I can play a song no problem.

Looking at the log I saw some errors and other notifications looking like protocol issues.

Thanks

Michel P.

Sometimes, selecting a favorite track in Tidal (web browser interfase), plays the following track in the list instead of the actual one clicked on. Refreshing the page does not help.

Thanks! We are having a look!

I just installed 3.129 on my Pi 3 and in general it seems a bit snappier and more responsive. Thanks everyone for all the hard work.

One thing I noticed, which is a big bugbear of mine with V2, is that the player progress bar in the mobile app (and, I think, also on the webplayer though i don’t use this very much) often loses sync with what’s playing, especially if you leave the app. Sometimes you can get back in sync by pausing and unpausing but other times you have to restart the app. I was really hoping this would be fixed in V3. Is it likely to be fixed in the future?

Installing fresh, 3.129 Spotify connect plugin will not install… Tried re-imaging, tried multiple times.

reply to this

Here you go
{“status”:“OK”,“link”:“http://logs.volumio.org/volumiobuster/kHw4MmQ.html”}

(same story - system is simply hanging)
(the network is fine, everything else is working and I’m even able to copy files to INTERNAL via SMB from a computer with no issues, the issue seems to be with just the interface on all devices/apps/web)

Thanks

PS. then when it finally loaded the interface looks like this

then stuck on this

Do we just guess why, or better still…

Would you share some system logs please?

Preferable from a fresh reboot, with minimal steps to reproduce the problem

I tried installing the spotify plugin from the plugins page, and also via ssh install which also failed.
How would I get it working on v3.129 ?

volumio plugin install

Please, this is not recommended - the entire push to the new plugin store is to avoid errors from manually installed plugins!

Spotify will come soon, please be patient!

oh, I should have said I tried to install it via the plugins section of the frontend, that failed which is why I tried manually.
this was the plugin I tried.
