Turns out that if one does something not too clever, Volumio goes into an infinite loop.
Disable the wifi
Disable the hotspot
Note that the wifi access points are still shown and press ‘Refresh’
Note that Volumio now has the whirling dots and will not respond to anything but the power supply…
