Testing Needed for I2S DACs

Hi there,

Also had the cracking warp issue.

After the update to 1.51 all formats plays well again.

Raspberry Pi b
Hifiberry digi
SMSL DAC

Using the “Generic DAC” driver, I have no selectable output. Even ALSA is missing from the dropdown.

My raspberrypi.conf is empty. aplay -l shows no soundcards.

How do I get this to work with a straight I2S DAC. (No need for I2C at all)

I have a model B and a hifiBerry I2S card. I have to use software volume control to get something other than 100% volume. Is this correct?

I initially had this running gmrender-resurrect with hifiBerry’s setup recommendations and had no problem controlling volume with the control point I was using (bubbleUpnP). I thought this actually had hardware volume control.

Hi! Where can I find the commit for the change that fixed this? I’m trying to install drivers for another device and it seems to revert the fix.

Thanks!

Had the HD audio music playing fast on 1.5 then upgrade to 1.51 today and all formats I have tried are playing fine.

All ok
16/44.1
24/96
24/192

Raspberry pi B
Hifiberry I2S
Volumio 1.51

Hi,

First post here. Thanks for this great piece of software !

Raspberry B
Audiophonics DAC PCM5102 I2S P5 32bit/384Khz
Volumio 1.5

16/44.1 : Fine
24/96 : Too fast + glitches
24/192 : No sound

Will try the kernel update and then try to flash with 1.5.1

Previous test was made with Linux volumio 3.12.33+ #724 - Volumio 1.5

Now, with Linux volumio 3.12.26+ #702 - Volumio 1.5

16/44.1 : Fine
24/96 : Fine
24/192 : Fine

Awesome !!! Now I can fully enjoy my 24/192 Miles Davis - Bitches Brew

After encountered problems with V1.5 playng any fs>48kHz, I installed V1.51 and playback is now OK for every bit rate. I use Raspberry Pi B with HiFiBerry Digi.

I got a Sabre ES9023 I2S similar to the Audiophonics one.

I’m runing 1.5 stock image. Shuld i apply this patch?

if on 1.5 yes, if on 1.51 no

Hi,

with Hifiberry’s Digi I encounter a sync issue after a minute into each track. There is a short interruption in the playback, the DAC’s sync LED goes off, then the music comes back (DAC’s RAM buffer) without sync.
I tried it with all kernel profiles; various playback configs; 44.1, 48, 96, 192 kHz; 16, 24 and 32 bit. The issue is consistent.

Hi!
Raspberry Pi B rev.2
PiCobber DAC v.2.1 PCM5102 (Audiophonics.fr analogue, P5socket i2c, 32/384 ?)
Volumio 1.51

Flac 24/96 - ok
Flac 24/192 - ok
AIF 32/192 - ok
WV 32/192 - ok
APE 32/192 - don’t playing

Took the files from here:

lindberg.no/hires/test/ )

Playback with short jerks in a few seconds:

DSD.dff 5644kbps/705,6kHz ~1sec.
DSD.dff. 2822kbps/352,8kHz ~ 2sec.
DXD.wav 32bits/352,8kHz ~3sec.
Flac24bits/352,8kHz ~2-3sec.

But what about the specs on my DAC? 32/384 - then it’s only a theory?

Hi,
performing update steps on 1.5 as described
1- model B
2- i2s DAC model - HifiBerry
3- 44.1 16 / 24 ok (also before update)
96 /24 ok (before update N/OK)
192 /24 ok (before update N/OK)

Is this update allready merged?

Hi,
just updated to 1.51 - now it works fine with all 24bit files.
With volumio 1.5 24bit played too fast and worst quality.

I2S driver hifiberry
Raspberry B+
diy DAC based on PCM1793

Hi,

I wish to use Raspberry B+ with Audio-GD NFB28 DAC connected by I2S. (DAC based on ES9018)

My setup is I2S electrical connections of only DATA, BCLK and LFCLK with the DAC and Volumio 1.5 and 1.51 with setup of “Hifiberry” DAC.

I’m able to get very good quality of PCM 24Bits/44,1KHz, 24Bits/88KHz, 24Bits/192KHz but I cannot get any correct sound quality with any 16Bits based PCM.

Looking at I2S signal I found out that Frames sent by the Raspeberry are 16 Bits data&length / Channel instead of 16 Bits Data / Channel of 32 bit length.
(If I’m not clear I can supply oscilloscope snapshot of I2S signals)

Having selected “Hifiberry” as DAC setup, I’m not surprised the raspberry is not sending frames as expected by the ES9018, but none of the other DAC setting proposed by Volumio menus allows to get I2S signals coming out of the RP B+.

I assume this is just a matter of Linux administration and setup to set drivers for ES9018, but I must admit I’m beginner in Linux administration and I have no clue, how to set this up, I’m just full of good will to follow instruction I may get from you all.

Michelangelo, Would you have any plan to add ES9018 DAC based equipement into Volumio possible setup ?

Thanks in advance for your support.
