Static/Noise from the Speakers

Volumio Information

Volumio Version: v2.915
Hardware: RPI4
DAC: Hifiberry Digi+

Hello everyone,

constant noise is audible from the speakers when no sound is played (from a distance of approx. 50 cm). It makes no difference whether I connect the RPI via USB or via optical cable (HiFiBerry Digi+) to the amplifier (Rotel RA 1592).

If I switch to another channel, the noise is no longer present. Likewise, the noise is also perceptible when headphones are plugged in.

I also tried to reduce the gain within alsamixer and checked all my configs. No matter what I do, the noise is still present

Was anybody confronted with the same issue and found a solution?

Thank you in advance!

Cheers,
ToKillTime

So it sounds like the noise is present on the output of the DAC since either output has the noise.
I’d start by;

  • moving the R Pi around
  • trying a different power source for the R Pi
  • running the R Pi of a battery

Either the R Pi and DAC are causing the noise, or it is being introduced by something nearby or the PSU.

I think you are having a ground loop.

Ground loops.

Does anyone ever call hum a “static/noise”?
