fixed two typos and submitted again - you need to reinstall (left the version on 1.0.18). I installed fusion and tested on my test-system and can see the button in the Fusion settings toggle now.
I’m a bit reluctant to implement reading the config file of the Fusion plugin and monitor for changes - more effort and needs some care to not get into any undesired state - so I leave it as is for the moment. Probably, this toggling is not something, that you do several times in a listening session, so it probably is only a minor annoyance, if you have to press the button twice

Did you upload the fixed version ? I uninstalled/reinstalled and I am getting exactly the same outcome.
I restored a backup of my system and updated your plugin from that, same result.
So not sure if the older version of .18 is cached somewhere else.

Mmmmh - I was certain I could “re-submit” versions with the same number, but that seems to fail now. Nevermind, I increased the version to 1.0.19 and that is available on the beta-channel now. Did not install it from there, but I think it should work. sorry for the inconvenience…
Had a good play around with it today.
It works pretty well in Volumio 3.251 turning the “effects” on and off almost perfectlty, sometimes on first press I have to press twice like you say. (Toggle not in sync ?)
But…in the latest version 3.429 (also 3.378) I cannot get it to function at all, It also stops the effects on/off button in the quick menu (in manifest layout) working properly.

If you can generate a log, that would help.
However, if it also stops the button in the settings from working, I suspect it is not the rotaryencoder plugin.
I basically send either an activateeffects or a deactivateeffect command to the Fusion plugin via the websocket interface. Would not see, how that could deactivate the button in the interface.
But let‘s see…
The Button to enable and disable effects actually in the settings for the fusion plugin still works.

I have just loaded up 3.378 on another card and cannot for the life of me reproduce what was happening all yesterday afternoon. It just works. The quick menu effects button occasionally stops but the push button continues to work without issue, so like you say probably not a RE2 problem.
Maybe a dodgey SDCard or more than likely was an error between keyboard and chair. 
I’ll try 3.429 again at some point see what happens.

I am new with Volumio. I installed Rotary Encoder II plugin , set all function and save. It work. But after some time plugin was inactive status. I checked it and i cannot change anything. Even unistall dos nor work. when i change anything and press save button then nothig happen. Volumio is 3.429 version and plugin is 1.0.15
Could you advice what i can check?
Just to let you know, I did get around to doing a fresh install of Volumio 3.429 with REII 1.0.19 on a new SDCard.
This time all works fine and am unable to replicate the problems I was getting before. It seems very stable. Using the button to turn the EQ on and off quite a few times during a ~4 hour session last night with no issues at all.
Part of the problem that RobgiE is having ie… not being able to save settings or uninstall was one of the symptoms I was getting when it stopped working and the only way out of that was to delete /data/configuration/system_hardware/rotaryencoder2/config.json , reboot and renter all the settings.
I try to do log but i am not sue if something shoud appear (new window) because nothing change when i choose log on or off. i did it by browser.
Do you mean, that you see nothing in the log under http://volumio.local/dev?

If that works, it would help me to see what happens, when you try to enable/disable the plug-in and try to save settings. It does not matter in the first step, if logging in the plug-in is enabled, Volumio does some logging by default already, which might give a hint, why it seems not to work for you.

Thanks, much better. The problem seems to be somewhere at the level, where the plug-in interacts with the kernel driver for the rotary.
Are you familiar with SSH?
We need to find out, why the plug-in is not able to properly install the dt-overlays.
I already wrote step-by-step instructions. The only thing you need is SSH.
If you use a Mac or Linux machine, it is included with the OS. On Windows you may need to install a client like PuTTY.

Your formatting is pretty messed up, but after straightening it out, I cannot really see the root cause.
What I can see:
- The plugin gets started and tries to install the overlay
- For some strange reason, the plugin gets started again, without being stopped intermediately (why??? I have no idea). Or did you copy the same sections twice, accidentally? There is no kernel message after this call, so there probably is something wrong.
- Then it seems, that you try to save a setting from the UI. Normally, that causes the plugin to uninstall all rotaries first and then reinstall them with the new settings. But uninstalling them already fails.
- Then there is another error message informing us, that the listener also could not be removed
I explain the log below.
I cannot really make a guess right now, but I have no system on 3.429 at the moment. Since I do not want to mess up my development system, I have to see when I find time to setup a fresh SD card and try that version.
In the meantime you could try to install the last beta of the plugin from the beta-channel (1.0.18). It might be, that I fixed something causing this in the meantime (although unlikely).

Update: I have upgraded to Volumio 3.435 and on my end the plugin is still working like usual.
I noticed another thing:
In your log, there are only error messages from the plugin (error: [ROTARYENCODER2]) but no processing information. Can you do me a favor and first enable the logging at the very bottom of the plugin settings and after that generate a new log, where I can see how you enable the plugin? This way we may be able to see exactly where it starts to fail.
