DAC: Asus Xonar Essence internal Soundcard
I am a new user of VOLUMIO. So far I used cmp2 software on shrunken Win XP, it sounded really amazing. Years ago, I tested this with an AYRE QB-9 DAC in asyncronous USB-mode. This was the best sounding configuration I ever heard at home.
Now I would like to change my internal XONAR soundcard against an external high-quality DAC. My choice ist he DDDAC 1794NOS which can be fed via USB (synchonous or asynchronous) or via I2S input.
My Questions:
- Is asynchronous mode selectable in the Audio-Output-settings of VOLUMIO if I2S DAC is set to OFF? Will VOLUMIO recognize any DAC?
- Is it possible to use I2S with the GIGABYTE EG45M-DS2H? What interface of this board provides I2S ? There are external: eSATA, USB, HDMI, firewire, and also an internal IDE connector). I would prefer an internai connector because computer and DDDAC will be integratet in the same box.
Please note that changing my hardware is no option.
