2.806 Installed no sound

Hi, I just installed 2.806 and I have no sound now. I have a HiFiBerry original dac and I think a Raspberry Pi 2? . This is really frustrating, I ponied up for the paid service so I could listen to Tidal and have had a pretty ordinary experience since. I really want this to work as I love linux and raspberry pi’s. If you need a log file can you tell me how to get one. I would do research but I feel since I’m paying for the service now I shouldn’t have to waste anymore time debugging things. I just want it to work. Thanks.

I feel like I read here somewhere that you might need to disable the I2S DAC hat, then reboot, then enable the DAC hat again after the V 2.806 update, with perhaps another restart after that to check it’s set OK.

The update screen shows this message:

IMPORTANT: If you have installed the Simple Equalizer and Parametric equalizer plugins, after this update, please disable and re-enable them, then save their configuration again. Otherwise you will have no-sound.

I have exactly the same setup in front of me, RPi2 with HifiBerry DAC. No problem for me, could you please try to perform following steps?

  1. Disable I2S DAC and save
  2. Reboot
  3. Enable I2S DAC and save
  4. Reboot

could you please post the log of the command aplay -l and cat /boot/config.txt after following the suggested procedure?

Could you please disable EQ plugins too? It looks like they are causing some issues

Simple EQ pluggin seems to stop audio whenever enabled under 2.806. See prior post on sw bug issue [ After Update to v2.657, no volume control ]

As soon as you see “through equalizer plugin” in Playback Options>>Output Device no sound is produced.
This is log when Simple EQ plugin is enabled and shows in Output Device and no sound is produced.

Wow, this issue with Simple EQ plugin has been open for quite awhile.

Here is my /etc/mpd.conf output. Hope this helps so this issue can be finally solved.

Hi All,

I’m new here, have a RP2 (don’t judge me) been running Volumio 2.7 for a week or two, no DAC (it’s on the slow boat from China) and no plugins, had no issues until I upgraded to 2.8 this morning, now I have a very quiet system even with volume at 100.

Any suggestions, or do I need to roll back to 2.7?

A bit of further playing and there is no longer any volume control from Volumio, whereas there used to be

Poking around and changing settings I cure my problem - changed DSD Playback Mode from HDMI to DSD Direct, now volume is controllable from the UI

Yeah, I read that I did not have that enabled to the best of my knowledge and if I did the update utility could have flagged me if my configuration needed it rather than throwing up a maybe message.

ps this wasn’t the problem.

Thanks Darmur this fixed my issue.

Alas no joy. I tride rebooting between each change and then also doing an upgrade which then returned the following error

Is there anything else I can try before performing a fresh install?

The only plugins I have installed (which are also actuive and configured) are:

  • System information
  • Touch Display
  • Spotify
  • Backup & Restore
  • GPIO Buttons

I can see Spotify playing but hear nothing. I have tested my AMP by playing my computer through it so I know that that is still working.

Never do apt upgrade… It will break your installation…
