X86 Hardware issues (Graphics, WiFi, Onboard Sound, external DACs, Disks, BIOS/UEFI Boot problems etc.)

This topic is about x86, not Tinkerboard

Thank you so much!

Hello,

Intel Broadwell.
I have trouble making audio over HDMI work.
In Settings → playback options → output device there are two option, “HDA Intel HDMI” and “Analog Out”.
I want HDMI audio playback, so I select the first option, but no sound comes out.

‘speaker-test -D hw:0,3 -c 2’ works fine.

Regards
Søren

Your HDMI sound interface is called “HDA Intel HDMI”, which is missing from the list of card profiles (so far nobody asked for it).
This will need a patch in the Volumio backend.

Meanwhile, if you know how to use an editor in a terminal session,
modify “/volumio/app/plugins/audio_interface/alsa_controller/cards.json”

  • copy the line with “Intel HDMI/DP LPE Audio”
  • in the copied line, replace “Intel HDMI/DP LPE Audio” by “HDA Intel HDMI”
  • reboot

Then let me know how that went.

Hi gkkpch
Thank you for your help. It doesn’t quite work yet. Now the option to select “HDA Intel HDMI” is completely missing from the UI.

This is what it looks like:
{“name”: “Intel HDMI/DP LPE Audio”, “multidevice”: true, “devices”:[{“number”:0, “prettyname”: “HDMI 0”, “defaultmixer”: “”},{“number”:1, “prettyname”: “HDMI 1”, “defaultmixer”: “”},{“number”:2, “prettyname”: “HDMI 2”, “defaultmixer”: “”}],“type”:“integrated”},
{“name”: “HDA Intel HDMI”, “multidevice”: true, “devices”:[{“number”:0, “prettyname”: “HDMI 0”, “defaultmixer”: “”},{“number”:1, “prettyname”: “HDMI 1”, “defaultmixer”: “”},{“number”:2, “prettyname”: “HDMI 2”, “defaultmixer”: “”}],“type”:“integrated”},

yes, but you ‘should’ have HDMI 0, HDMI 1 and HDMI 2 instead.
Try each one of them.

In case that does not work, change the profile to look like this:

{“name”: “HDA Intel HDMI”, “multidevice”: true, “devices”:[{“number”:3, “prettyname”: “HDMI”, “defaultmixer”: “”}],“type”:“integrated”},

This should reflect the speakertest “hw” parameters which you said were working

Thank you, that worked.

The software mixer does not seem to work - could there be some kind of mixer issue? But I don’t want it anyways.

regards
Søren

I presume the last one worked, not the first?

Indeed, the last one:

{“name”: “HDA Intel HDMI”, “multidevice”: true, “devices”:[{“number”:3, “prettyname”: “HDMI 0”, “defaultmixer”: “”},{“number”:7, “prettyname”: “HDMI 1”, “defaultmixer”: “”},{“number”:8, “prettyname”: “HDMI 2”, “defaultmixer”: “”},{“number”:9, “prettyname”: “HDMI 3”, “defaultmixer”: “”},{“number”:10, “prettyname”: “HDMI 4”, “defaultmixer”: “”}],“type”:“integrated”},

perfect addition, please submit this as a patch.
I’ll help via PM when needed😀

Is the new Spotify plugin not available for x86? I can’t seem to find it.

It is available in the plugin section for x86, as long if you run V3.x

Hi, I Installed Volumio X86 on a Chuwi Herobook Air.
My problem is that the screen is always on and I couldn’t manage to set screen timeout.
Please can you help me?

The log is here http://logs.volumio.org/volumio/aScBQKT.html

I append outputs of lspci and inxi -Fxxxz here.

Thank you

Hi. I came on this forum to find this information. It’s a quite a search to find this. My device did not auto-update (of course, because of the CPU issue), but I only found out about this because Spotify stopped working. Would be nice to add a very small line of text at the downloads to indicate that V3 does not support 32-bit devices anymore. I couldn’t find any “minimum requirements” or something like that.
I’ll try to find a new thin Client, now that my 25-year old thin-client is -at last- obsolete.

what is not clear about "Volumio Audiophile Music Player for PC (X86/X64) on the download page

Btw. plenty of 64-bit thin clients on the 2nd hand market, e.g. Dell/ HP for a price lower than an RPi 4.

Maybe it’s a definition question, but I read it as X86 and/or X64. Could be me, but I think there might be others who don’t have the definitions / nomenclature clear. Just thought that it could be nice to add a short explanation, that’s all.
I was already looking for a nice X64 ThinClient, prices do seem to have gone up lately. But I’ll find something

Bijvoorbeeld Dell Wyse 3040, is een Intel Atom x5-z8350 met genoeg memory en eMMC

mm kenden wij maar iemand… Deze zijn momenteel rond de 200-250 euro.
