If you upgrade from V2 to V3 => yes.
From V3.x to V3.y => No
To be safe SSH to your current Volumio and copy the playlists from “/data/playlist”
But make sure that if you use a NAS, you name it exactly the same as in the previous version
Hello, thank you for your reply. I’m using een USB external hard drive 10 TB with all my music stored in it. I have four playlist i would like to keep. Can you give some more info what to do. I’m not that familiar with SSH 
Enable SSH in volumio => volumio.local/dev
Download and install WinSCP
Connect to Volumio and click to "“/data/playlist”
and copy everything.
