Volumio2 : Having Problems with ODROID-XU4 build 2.115

Hello,

I downloaded the XU4 image from the experimental repository, and flashed it to a 16G uSD card using Windows Image Writer. I took the time to do a verification step as well, which passed.

I’ve included the full boot log from the serial debug port, but to me it looks like the main problem is:

So, it looks like the sqsh file is not found. When I read the uSD card on a Mint system, however, I see three partitions and the middle partition contains a file named “volumio_current.sqsh”.

Any ideas what is going on here?

it is an experimental version with the new kernel 4.9 and probably only boots correctly from emmc.
Reason is probably the new u-boot using different device numbers for both, the older uboot always had /dev/mmcblk0 for the boot device.
I need to change that…
For now, i will generate an image with the previous kernel version, which should be ok for both emmc and sd.

I am very pleased! I’ve got Volumio running off the uSD card now. This is my first experience with the software, and I’ve got to tell you that the ease of setup was IMPRESSIVE. The same hardware has an MPD installation on the eMMC that took quite a bit of tweaking with MPD.conf, alsa.conf, and fstab. I will play with both for a while, but it looks like Volumio will likely win out.

Is the ODROID-XU4 port likely to go mainline at any point?

the thing with Odroid XU4 is lack of demand, you are one of the very few using an XU4 for music. I will definitely update once in a while, like I tried 4.9, but there is no plan for mainline or even a release. It is likely to remain ‘experimental’.
The only good use I see is a central unit to stream for a multiroom setup, it has plenty power to resample on-the-fly.

Yes, volume for the Odroid stuff will never be as high as the Rpi or BBB.

In my case, I had several BBB lying around, but I found that with my particular DAC, MPD would stutter. I played around for far too long before deciding to just get some hardware with a bit more horsepower. The XU4Q board is really not that much more expensive than the BBB if you run off of uSD. It is that eMMC card that doubles the price.

Now that you mention multi-room, you’ve got me wondering about snapcast. It never ends…
