Volumio 3 Buster Beta for RPi

Please use this topic to discuss errors, missing components or improvement suggestions during the Volumio 3 Buster beta test phase for Raspberry Pi.

In this opening and first following post we will keep a list of beta versions, fixes, known problems and important updates.
Please also refer to the general issues for Volumio 3 Buster issues, which are not platform-specific.

This thread will be moderated actively. With issues, which do not appear to be RPi or Debian Buster related, you will be referred to the help section.

To help us locating and fixing issues, the following information is mandatory:

  • a recap of the boards configuration, incl. list of peripherals (DACs, disks etc.)
  • the exact image version you are testing with
  • whenever possible, the URL of the logfile you created with the log function from the dev page

I just installed Volumio version 3.046 into my Raspberry Pi4 2GB version. The installation went fine without any issue. I noticed that the speed is snappier than version 2.xxx. My music is stored on a NAS with 6621 albums and 48174 tracks. Connection is through my CAT7 1GB Lan cable. There is no Plugins available at this time. I was going to give it a try on Virtuoso plan but I’m not sure if it’ll work or not because I want to try playing Tidal natively.

I don’t feel any difference on the UI. They look exactly the same as v 2.xxx. So far so good!

System Information:
Volumio Version 3.046 Released: Fri 26 Feb 2021 02:48:09PM CET.
Topping D90MQA with iSilencer+ (@ Pi4 end) Wireworld Starlight 8 USB 3.0 connect to iFi iPurifier 3 (@ Topping end).
NAS - Qnap 251+ connected to Router via CAT7 lan cable.
Raspberry Pi 4 2GB connected to Router via CAT7 lan cable.

Installed the beta to address the crackling issue I had with my cheap Adafruit MAX98357. After some help from @Timothyjward the crackle is completely now eliminated. I can echo the previous post that responsiveness is much snappier.

One thing that is missing are the UK’s national BBC radio stations are not available under the web radio tab - Which means no BBC 6Music, which is what is usually playing on this particular volumio speaker.

Sys info:
Volumio 3.046
Raspbery pi 3A
Adafruit MAX98357

Connected wirelessly.

Great work guys. Seems to be working well so far. Looking forward to plugins and updated webradio lists being added.

BTW: I know I can add radio streams manually (I have added 6Music myself)

installed version Volumiobuster-3.046-2021-02-26-pi on a raspberry pi 2b.
audio hardware: allo isolator v1, allo boss 2.1
mixer type: none, works well.
audio resampling: off.
mixer type: software volume control works well.
mixer type hardware does not work properly, volume only changes at the last 99 to 100%, so 1% increase, to 0 it stays at 99% volume.

plug-in is empty in settings.
Plays well on radio, no plug-in installed.

Raspberry 3B
Allo Piano 2.1

DSP settings are available with 3.046
but - no sound
regardsless if set to Dual Stereo or Dual Mono

Allo Kali between or not does not make a difference.

What kind of logs to send would be helpful ?

Internal naming is slightly different from the released version, this is why the Volumio Selection of web radios is not available.
We will have to live with that for the time being, it will be back when Volumio 3 has been released.

Raspberry 3
Terraberry DAC 2 as well as Terryberry DAC 3 (tested both)

Default mixer is set to hardware.
There is coming sound  but the control does have no effect since theses DACs don’t have hardware volume control.
This should be set to “none” as default.

Josef

Hi Josef,

are you sure this only happens with Volumio 3?
My guess would be that this is an unrelated issue, can you confirm?
(I’m not suggesting, that it should not be fixed when it is unrelated, but better to be clear)

Hi gkkpch,

Yes could be it is not directly related to v3.
In v3 the situation has become better, because there is sound output even the setting “hardware” is wrong - in v2 one first has to set to “none” and do a reboot to hear something.

So there is a difference between v2 and v3 - even if things have become better

ok, all clear now. I’ll add it to the list

Technical question:
How does volumio 3 play audio?
By number of audio device (for example hw:1,0) or by name (for example plughw:CARD=IQaudIODAC,DEV=0)?

I would say by name
cat /etc/asound.conf

pcm.volumioHw {
    type hw

}

Playing raw data 'stdin' : Signed 16 bit Little Endian, Rate 44100 Hz, Stereo

This happens with Tidal as well, a short pause and resume shows tokens instead of title

Rpi 3B
Pifi dac + (Setup as HifiBerry dac +)
Ver 3.046
Playback mode Single
Rpi 3B,OpenMediaVault ,External Usb disk as NAS + files in Internal

Have tested back and forth with web radio, files from Nas and files from Internal, and not much to complain about, works nice! :yum:

The problems I found are under Artists some albums do not play when clicking the Play button nor from the three dot menu. But tracks from the Album shows below and works from ther. When clicking the album name it says “No item”

But from the main window , three dot menu and Go to Artist everything works fine when picking Albums and single tracks

MainView

And then a small issue in Playlists , the play button don’t work, the three dot menu and single tracks in the playlist works
