Versions above 2.729 will not boot

PROBLEM:

• Cannot update pass version 2.729 of volumio.
• Found no information that would help. One post was close but there was no final solution.
• Aware of check SDcard corruption, low power, don’t touch system when install is in progress… I assume that if it were a card corruption or power problem that any version, new or old would fail ?
• There has to be something that changed in Volumio after 2.729 !? (Or maybe after 2.773, memory may fail me)

System :

HELP please ! Hope one of you has a solution.
TY !

Can you try flashing newest version via download without any update?

Did not try that last step with 2.834. Was short on time.
I will get to it soon, I will finish configuring what I have that works, lost favorites and playlist (other post to come for this).
After making a backup image I will flash the latest version (2.834).

TY

Hello, same problem for me but with raspberry pi zero w.
Boots directly to “failsafe mode”. Version volumio-2.834-2020-09-24-pi , the latest i found.

I can’t get the logs, but the service that fails in my case is systemd-random-seed.service
Checking with “systemctl status systemd-random-seed.service” and trying to start it manually with “systemctl start systemd-random-seed.service” , it got an error that read something like " file or directory /var/lib/systemd/random-seed does not exist" .
Trying to " touch /var/lib/systemd/random-seed " ( no idea what i was doing  ) i got a " no space left on the device" error.

I hope it helps a little on debugging this.

BR//Stratos.

TY for your input lumiaen

UPDATE :
Extra steps to be added to initial trouble shooting description in first post.

Formatted SD card.
Flash ver. 2.834 image.
After initial start-up in Pi, Volumio will not start.
No green led, just red.
No hot spot.
No setup procedure.
Nothing.

Next

Downloaded a new image copy of ver. 2.834.
Did same procedure as above.
Same results as above.
Fail.

Next

Formated SD card.
Flash ver. 2.729 image.
Did setup.
Works as it should.

Also failed to load on my Pi Zero W. Volumio version 2.834. Clean install from website on a formatted SD. No lights coming on the pi, no wifi named Volumio. I had previously had everything running well, but thought I’d start from scratch to debug a few issues.

Where can I grab an older version from?

Update:

  1. Found 2.729 for pi here. http://updates.volumio.org/pi/volumio/2.729/volumio-2.729-2020-03-18-pi.img.zip
  2. Flashed.
  3. It worked.
  4. Clicked “Check Updates” in Volumio, updated to 2.834.
  5. It worked.

So, for those looking for the 2.834 version but it doesn’t work from the website download, consider going with 2.729 and updating from there.
