Updates, firmware, partition size

I updated the R-Pi firmware some weeks ago. Will it be kept when I update to 1.4? I see a folder called “firmware” in the root of Volumio so maybe it is stored there and not in some other flash memory.

Also, my SD is 4 GB. How can I expand the volumio partition to 4 GB? the downloaded image is only 2 GB big.
