Storing music on raspberry pi SD card - need updated explanation

Volumio Information

Volumio Version: latest
Hardware: Pi 3
DAC: Digi One Hat

I flashed a 256G SD with volumio. All worked fine. A message went by saying the size of the SD partition had been extended to the whole card. Looking at the dev entries there is one for overlay which is indeed the whole 256.

Given the many discussions about the need to repartition I’m confused about whether things have changed and repartitioning is no longer necessary, or whether I must go through some partitioning process.

I tried putting music in /var/lib/mpd/music/INTERNAL but it was not read by volumio.

So (and I suspect others) need:

  1. an explanation of what happens with current release when the SD partition is extended to the whole card. Does this mean I can just write to directories like /var/lib/mpd/music and expect to take advantage of the whole SD card from a space point of view?

  2. if not, what are the current repartiioning steps?

  3. where then should flac files be placed?

Thanks!

in internal… in a folder …but don’t for get to scan after that so they show up in your list.
