Spotify connect skipping songs

Hi I have a weird problem and haven’t found any other posts in the forum related to this.

I did a fresh install of Volumio 3 on a Pine64 +
Everything works perfectly fine except the Spotify connect plugging.
When I select Volumio on the device list in Spotify, the device is selected and it connects but it starts to play and skip songs one after another without being able to pause or skip. It will only stop if I select another device in Spotify.

Here’s the debug messages I get:

I have the exact same fault when updating to 3.233.
I even did a complete format of my sd card and reinstalled the entire Volumio OS.
Did not help…

Just tried to downgrade to (fresh image):
https://updates.volumio.org/pi/volumio/3.224/Volumio-3.224-2022-02-07-pi.zip
It seems that Spotify has changed something, that has caused Volumio to break.
I have an older Spotify app installed on my Mac and the newest on iOS. Both keeps skipping all songs.

Seems to widespread in DK and some other EU countries.

Not sure, if this is really just a tmp issue, as I have been experiencing this for at least 12 hours now.

Tested the same, but I have no issues.
Volumio: V3.233
Rpi: rPi4-8GB, rev: 1.4

Only thing:
Using volumio3 => Sound of silence
Using volumio3-UPnP/AV => No issues

Thanks for the heads up, I’m in Denmark too. I tried your solution of adding the IP to /etc/hosts and it works. Will follow the issue in github to see if it gets solved. Thanks a lot!

In case it helps anyone else. @morphar 's temp solution until Spotify fixes the issue is the following (copied from his comment).

I just tried to force ap-gew4.spotify.com domain to point to the IP of ap-gew1.spotify.com, by setting this in /etc/hosts:

104.199.65.124 ap-gew4.spotify.com

Sir how do u edit etc / hosts. Thru terminal android , macox, windows 10?

Follow this guide to access your volumio via SSH and then use any editor to edit the /etc/hosts file (check this guide)

I had a similar problem on my phone pixel 4a. I just logged out and logged in on Spotify. This will fix the problem and I would recommend to download modded app if you are not using premium or iOS app.

Works for me also !!!

I had horrible skipping with my system using the Spotify Windows app:
Windows 10 Home (21H2) Build 19044.1766
Spotify Windows 1.1.89.862
Raspberry Pi 4B 4GB
Volumio System 3.301
Spotify plug-in 3.0.1
Music Sevices Shield 1.3.1 (tried with it enabled and disabled)

Works flawlessly now.

Volumio worked fine by itself before, Spotify worked fine by itself before as long as I didn’t select the Volumio Connect device. This seems to me to be a problem Volumio needs to fix in their default /etc/hosts file.

OK, I didn’t fully test both the Volumio web client and the Spotify app before posting above. I have been using the default windows DNS settings. I now get the message that “xpui.app.spotify.com can’t be reached” or I get skipping again in the Spotify app depending on my browser DNS setting. I have tried both std DNS and DNS over HTTPS using Cloudflare. I have also tried changing default browsers - the latest Opera or Chrome. I haven’t been able to find a fix so far.

After several more hours trying every trick I could think of or find on the internet, I have given up on using the Spotify app in Win10. I can only use the Volumio web client since the Spotify Connect plug-in (3.0.1) is so broken.

I guess I’ll just have to wait until Volumio realizes this and fixes it.

My system specs:

With iOS 15.5 and spotify connect it does the same. It worked like a week or 2 ago last time i played music.
Through phone or any other config it works flawlessly.

I’m on pi4 /8gb. With latest Volumio.

Tried also to log in and out but did Nothing. Also bunch of other hard resets and restarts.

I’m happy to report that ALL my issues with Volumio, the Spotify Plugin, and the Spotify App in my Windows 10 computer are now working as they should. No rapid song skipping, no “xpui.app.spotify.com can’t be reached" error.

I updated my PC app to Spotify 1.1.89.862, my Volumio OS in my Raspberry Pi 4b to 3.324, and my Spotify Plugin for Volumio to 3.0.3.

Many Volumio restarts were involved ( I restart after each uninstall and each reinstall), but in the end - all is good again!

Sorry, newbie here with pi and volumio. How the hevk donyou update the plug in? Isn’t doing this automatic?

@Maxmartin - go to Plugins > Search Plugins > Music Services > Spotify > Details. You should then be able to see multiple versions of the Spotify plugin, from which you can select the version you want to install - if you already have version 3.324 of Volumio installed. To be safe, I uninstall the old version of the plugin and restart Volumio before I select and install a new version of the Spotify plugin and restart again. As far as I can tell, Volumio and its plugins do not update themselves.

Duh ! - I should have learned long ago to wait a day or two before posting a “solution” to make sure I have tried all usages and rebooted several times. Unfortunately I have found a “minor” inconvenience when using my Win10 Spotify App 1.1.89.862 with Volumio 3.324 - the pause / stop button does not work. When I press it, there is a jump to the next song on my playlist. I have to go to Volumio to stop music playing. And, even more annoying, the “xpui.app.spotify.com can’t be reached" error has come back. Why it worked yesterday but not today completely mystifies me. I guess I will have to wait for further Volumio / Spotify releases.

So weird - I found that if I have the Volumio web page open at the same time as the Spotify app running that I get the problems as stated in my previous post. If I close the Volumio web page, the Spotify app works as it should. Not ideal, but I can probably live with that.

Had this issue again, started around july 20, 2022.
added the adres to hosts filoes of all my streamers, and all is fine again.
