[Solved] Mpd updating and crash Volumio 1.4 on Cubox-i2ex

Updating of DB causes a crash in 10 minutes, after reading the files both via UPNP and as a NAS Mount.
I believed it was caused by the number of files, circa 13.000 (i read the thread about the library limitation and your answer, Michelangelo) but now i’m working with only a part of my collection.

This is the hardware:
-Cubox-i2ex, wired with a XAV1004-100 PES in the port with the highest priority and on the other side with a Powerline AV500 linked to the router (it worked well with the old Emtec :open_mouth: and the pings are <2 ms)
-a 8 Gb SD class 10 flashed with the proper Volumio 1.4 (flashed two times to exclude it was the problem…)
-router Netgear D6200, with default settings (apart pws…)
-a (very) basically Nas, the Neatgear Stora with default settings

The files are mostly flacs and few mp3 or aac and the control is made by a pc with Ubuntu 14.04 LTS and XP or by a tablet android Samsung

Before the crash my Primare linked with the optical spdif sounds really good :imp:

I made a lot of prooves but always with the same result, the crash of Cubox after the reading of the collection.
I’m a beginner, so simple aswers please
Can I wait for new updates?

p.s.
Michelangelo I read on AudioReview your replay, thank you, I’ll answer after this madness!

Please, help me!
This is the screen after the boot: 20140830_182618.jpg
I set the advanced option with the string sec=ntlm but launching the update of the database the result is always the same.
Here the last screen after the “death” of the cubox (ok, i’m not the master of the flash):

Hi

I have the exact same problem with a Cubox-i2Ultra…
Any help welcome!

Guys, I’m investigating… Will take some time, sorry. You can try NFS in the meantime…

OR you can try to update the webui (you will break something but at least NAS should work…)

cd /home/volumio sh webuiupdate.sh

Let me know how it goes

Thanks for suggestions Michelangelo but not good news.
First, my Nas seems not support NFS.
Second, I updated the webui following the code you posted.
The first attempt wasn’t successful for my fault, I don’t logged as root.
The second reached the goal. I copied below the result of update.

Anyway at reboot I have setted the name of cubox and i saw that the label “Library” is disapperead, there are now only Browse, Playback and Playlist.
In Browse the first time i saw not only webradio but also ramplay, upnp and dnla server.
Then I mounted the NAS (not at the first attempt) and at updating of the library, always the same, the cubox begin to read the content of NAS (i can see the directory little by little browsing) and after some minutes the cubox crashes.

At reboot, turning off the cubox, i see only ramplay in browse, the nas seems successfully mounted but when i launch the update of the library the same film.
For a proof I flashed another card with the openlec distribution of xbmc and in this environment all the music can be played but not in same way like in Volumio!
I wait for news or updating…

Hi

I finally managed to find some time to perform the update as suggested by Michelangelo.
The update went smooth.
After reboot however, I still have the same issue:
The DB starts updating but after few minutes, connection with the cubox is lost and the TV screen shows there is a kernel panic.
Not able to connect to the cubox, I am not able to post more details about the issue.

Extra info: The files are on a syno NAS. Volumio is set to access the share via NFS.
On a different SD card, I manage to get mpd running fine with similar NFS settings (I added mpd to the xbian distro for audio purposes only).

Few things I noticed since the webui update:

  • When setting up the NAS mount, the advanced options can no longer be accessed.
  • volume does not see the syno upnp server any longer.

Any help welcome!
Thanks
Flahutbux

I’m experiencing the same problem on my Cubox-I2ex. The device always crashes and becomes unresponsive after it starts updating the DB (within 5 minutes, before it reaches the letter C in my collection, that’s less than 3k files), resulting in about the same errors that are shown on the screenshot.

What I’ve tried:
different SD cards
webupdate
NFS instead of CIFS

Volumio 1.4 works great on my cubieboard2, accessing the same shares. Whether through NFS or CIFS

I haven’t had much time to troubleshoot yet, as I only received my Cubox last night

Having this same problem. Have tried all suggested solutions.

i have the same problem.
Hope 1.5 solve this

i have tried the code from Michelangelo :

cd /home/volumio sh webuiupdate.sh

when Volumio restart it say :

if i choose Update :

Updating won’t work, I’m preparing 1.5 for cubox… Which will solve the above issue…

Bravo

Ohhhh!
I’m waiting anxiously…

Everyday since 01 nov 2014 I verify two times a day al least if 1.5 is available for cubox.
Argh!!!
Please release it!

RELEASED!
Thanks to Michelangelo and to the staff.
I’m flashing the card…

Stay tuned…

It works well!
I’m very glad.
After the flashing Volumio booted at first time, no problem about mounting my Nas, my new QNAP (ok, everything was good setted the second time, i would have read again the tips abount mounting  ).
It doesn’t crash!
The quality of sound is really really high compared to other similar system. No clicks, no stops.
Plus my Cubox is cool not warm as with different distro’s, this means, I think, that only what necessary is working.
One minus is that appears in the webgui, with different intervals, “connecting” that disappear reloading the page.
Sometimes it appears when browsing music, and reloading compels to travel again in the tree structure.

Now i can focus only into listening of MUSIC!

Thanks to Michelangelo and to the staff

After four months I can tell the release is rock steady!
Even the (small) trouble “connecting” using Chrome, not the tablet’s browser, is disappeared.
Everything is working well and only music, music, music, with quality depending only by the original files.
I share the spirit of the project and I appreciate the essence not adds-on useless.
Anyway in the next releases, include in a simple way the displaying of the covers, could be a good idea.
I’m waiting for the DAC iFi Nano DSD to improve my sistem and to be ready to the high resolution music.
I’ll update soon the compatibility list (I hope!).

Thank you Michelangelo and staff once again.
