Raspberry Pi firmware updates

Hi, I have just seen an announcement for a new Raspberry Pi 4 EEPROM update.
I’d like to apply the update because it contains a large number of fixes and improvements.
I was planning to replace my Volumio SD card, running the latest version of Volumio, with another ‘disposable’ card, possibly running Raspbian, while I applied the firmware update.
Does this plan sound reasonable? Is my Volumio card likely to boot/run ok when I reboot from it? Should I wait till Volumio has tested/certified it runs well on the new firmware?
I’m sure this applies to earlier Pi versions too.
Thanks.

this will not damage anything just works… no worries…
only volumio will not work from ssd… because of the hard coding of volumio
