Please Help with new install on laptop without OS

Hi All

I am having difficulties to install Volumio on an old Compaq 6820s laptop.

I formatted the HDD so no OS is installed.

I downloaded the volumio PC image and unpacked it with Etcher on an usb pen drive to get a bootable drive.

But it wont boot, it stops with the syslinux 6.03 EDD 20171120 message.

What am I doing wrong?

A few things:

  • try a different USB port
  • Load the default settings in the BIOS
  • Try again
  • Make sure the USB drive is completely empty (no hidden partitions) use diskpart and formatted as FAT32.
  • Use balena etcher to burn the image to the disk, and don’t interrupt the validation check.
