Odroid N2 does not recognize 1440x900 screen with 3.3.5 Touchscreen Plugin

I connected my Odroid N2 (latest Volumio 3.379) to a Lenovo 1440x900 screen using the 3.3.5 version of the touchscreen plugin. The Odroid did not recognize the screen.
Using the older 3.3.1 version, the Odroid recognized the screen just fine.
I am puzzled that there is a difference in this respect between the two versions of the plugin.

@gvolt can you look at this?

Best regards,
Dvo

Is Volumio’s boot screen displayed?

Do you see an error message when you enable the plugin? If so, what’s the message?

Nothing is displayed on the screen. No error message when installing the plugin.
Remote access via tablet works

So you don’t even see Volumio’s boot screen?

There is no boot screen present on community portings

Ok, should there be text lines displayed when the system boots?

@jacobacci

Please connect to Volumio via SSH (SSH - Volumio Documentation) and post the output of

cat /var/log/Xorg.0.log

No, there is no boot log.
Without the touchscreen plugin, you will only see the login prompt after boot has finished. Before that, the screen is blank.

@gkkpch Thanks for the info.

@jacobacci Do you see the mentioned login prompt after Volumio has booted?

To compare, with a 1920x1080 monitor, Xorg.0.log would look like this:

But… the screen remains blank, no local UI.
This is strange, I don’t use it, but as far as I remember it was working when I developed the image.

Just ran the same test, and indeed the screen remains empty.
During boot the login prompt is visible, but then the screen turns grey.

volumio@volumio-n2:~$

I did a Uninstall and tried to reinstall, but the plugin errored out:
http://logs.volumio.org/volumio/r4OIXrz.html

Do you have a grey background as @Wheaten reported or plain black?

not plain black, very dark grey.

Then I guess it is an issue with chromium. Please post the results of

systemctl status -l volumio-kiosk

chromium-browser -version

and

ls -al /usr/bin/chromium*

Sorry unable to do, as the plugin keeps failing to install after my 1st removal.

get stuck on below, when trying to remove it again:

@Wheaten Yes, I saw that the re-install failed on your system. Therefore my last my last post was intended for @gkkpch… was not clear enough though.

Successful install of V3.3.1, but here it’s the same. Dark background.
trying to upgrade to V3.3.5:

And the installer crashed again…

So to mess @gvolt up

Did a factory reset:

Installed:

The log you linked in post 12 shows that the Touch Display’s install script fails on linking “/usr/bin/chromium” to “/usr/bin/chromium-browser”. This is why installing the plugin failed. ATM I don’t see why this happened…

Edit: I believe the issue is that on updating the plugin to 3.3.5 from an older version, linking “/usr/bin/chromium” to “/usr/bin/chromium-browser” fails, because the link is already there. Since version 3.3.3beta the install script detects this error and cancels the installation. I will do a PR for a new version of the plugin ASAP.

In the meanwhile instead of updating the plugin I recommend to uninstall it and then install the new version.

Note: This issue only affects non-Pi system.
