Noise and hiss with external USB DSD DAC

Hi the RPI/Volumio setup finds the Schiit Loki external DSD dac, but the sound is distorted with hiss and noise.
DSD tracks will play and the DAC indicator light comes on to say a track is playing.

DSD worked with 1.3, but not with 1.4 or 1.41.

The RPI has an onboard hifiberry DAC as well.

I can ssh, is there any command to run for troubleshooting or updating?
