mdXS - the source is everything

For budget projects we like the idea to install mdXS players inside a good old amplifiers.
Here’s one project with a NAD 3020i – http://www.tnt-audio.com/ampli/nad3020e.html, the amp who stole the industry back from Japan in the 80’ – and a good old pair of Mission 760i (a pair of socks to the port holes and their cost-benefit ratio goes thru the roof). Booth items are still cheap to get on the second hand buyers market although some folks already try to make a fortune on the NAD’s legacy.

What’s inside:
Starting with a 3D printed PSU with a Talema 30VA 2x 9V transformer, 2x CRC 6800uF/35Vs and a 6A Schottky diode
four regulators
single LM317 regulator for the Raspberry Pi Mod B+
single LM317 regulator for its USB ports
single regulator + booster for the Hifiberry DAC+ DVDD
dual stage LT1086CT regulator for the Hifiberry DAC+ AVDD), Hifiberry DAC+
supply the player.

Other mods to the NAD: Vishay 50V/6800 re-cap + taking the phono preamp off the power rail (in case you sold your turntable long time ago)

A big thank you for posting this information. A question for you: What are the values for the CRC filter in X-7 Series mark II? I can see one capacitor is 10000uf, and the resistor is 2 ohm, but what is the value of the second capacitor?

Thanks

Hi Westers,
we used a power supply unit designer software to find a good combination for CRC.
Generally we end up using 2x Kendeil 10000uf/40V and a 2R/5W resistor in between…

Thanks for the information

Hi everyone,
We came in 11th in HiFiBerry and Bang & Olufsen’s CREATE Maker Contest!
