Khadas Tone Board - DSD only works w/Volume Normalization

Hi, my setup is:

Volumio 2.703 on a Pi 2B > USB out to Khadas Tone Board on v1.04 firmware (most recent) > Khadas Tone board RCA out to Pre-amp

I can only get DSD .dsf files to play if I turn on Volume Normalization in Volumio General Playback Options. The problem then is that the beginning of each track is loud and after a few seconds it gets quieter. Not ideal for enjoying music.

Any other combination of General Playback Options either results in loud static white noise or complete silence, despite the Volumio Playback tab showing the track is playing as a DSD file at DSD 2.8 1 bit.

Ideally, I would like to be able to set my General Playback Options as below and have .dsf files playback normally, something I believe should be possible with Volumio and the Khadas Tone Board on the most recent firmware:

DSD Direct
DSD Auto Volume Level > On
Volume Normalization > Off

I got it working after rolling back to factory reset image and reinstalling latest version

Volumio 2.413
Khadas Tone Board on v1.04 firmware (standard, non-VIM DAC)

Playback Options:
DSD Direct
DSD Auto Volume Level - On
Volume Normalization - Off

Mixer Type:
None
