Help with rotary encoder

Hello,
I need some help with my rotary encoder. I have it wired in and it is very temperamental and does not control my volume as expected. This appears to be a feature of these little devices on the raspberry pi (as has been noted by many others.)

I’d like to implement hardware debounce to smooth out the signal, but my skills and knowledge are pretty non-existent.

I’ve tried to do some research on how to go about adding resistors, but my first attempts have not been successful. I tried to more reading but I’m getting lost.

I also wonder if with my entry-level soldering skills have negatively affected the rotary encoder, as currently, as it seems to be crashing the pi

Could someone tell me exactly what resistors to put on which wire to make my rotary encoder work?

I’ll need to order the bits…

Thanks in advance
