DSD Files white noise and "breaks"

Volumio Information

Volumio Version: 2.873
Hardware: Raspberry Pi 3 model B+
DAC: Khadas Tone Board 2

Hi,

I’m completely newby in this world. I’ve always listen to music through a CD player and nowadays also through my laptop, so please don’t be to hard on me.

I was able to put volumio running on my pie, and everything worked great when using Tidal as a source. When, i tried to use dsd files (stored at a usb pen) i was not able to make volumio to work properly. For exemple: the dsd file played but there was always a white noise on back ground, or the dsd played with breakes (no white noise).

I Know that the dac can handle dsd, and it worked just fine when using Foobar.

Can you please help me?

Thanks

Hi,

In general, many USB Audio devices do not support volume control and output 100% by default which results in a bit-perfect stream. Bit-perfect is necessary to play DSD formats.
Khadas does have volumio control (assuming it has current firmware), which forces you to set it to 100% before being able to play DSD tracks. Anything less than that will cause (intermittent) white noise.
Please check this first and report back if it still does not work.
