Cubox-i kernel panic

Hello Michelangelo,

I really like how Volumio is performing and you can be proud of what you have created. The sound quality is great and I love using it almost every day. Please keep your enthusiasm on this great product.

Though I have a strange problem. I have been using both raspberry Pi and Beaglebone black which sounded great, but I always had problems with some audible glitches when it was playing. I recently bought a Cubox-i for other reasons than using it with Volumio, but I thought, why not give it a try.

It absolutely sounds great. Now glitches or what so ever and it is very fast. But another problem arises with the Cubox-i. Sometimes within only 5 minutes, sometimes over 2 hours, the kernel panics and there is no response any more. Not even the console. Network LED’s are blinking, but no ping or ssh.

It only happens when music is playing not when it is just running idle. I’ve tried many things, but nothing seems to change.

My configuration:
CuBox-i2eX
USB to SPDIF converter from DIYINHK
Firestone BigJoe-III DAC and a Maverick Audio TubeMagicD1 DAC
Multiple type of USB memory sticks with FLAC music (44.1/16, 48/24 and 96/24)

Things I have already tried:

  • Tried the Volumio versions 1.2 and 1.4 (1.2 crashes as well but seams to be somewhat responsive at the console)
  • Tried different types of mSD cards.
  • Tried another Cubox-i2eX from a friend.
  • Tried another brand network switch
  • Tried using the internal SPDIF connector
  • Tried playing from different sources, though always from an USB device.

These are some messages at some point when it fails:

If you or someone else can be of any help on this, that would be great.

Thanks in advantage.

Kind Regards,
