I started to move my CD collection to Volumio and noticed that some records never finish the ripping process, even if you leave the process running overnight.
I have narrowed the problem down to special characters. If I make sure to manually edit the song titles so, that none of the contain a question mark, then the ripping process doesn’t freeze and completes normally.
Which application are using to convert your CDs? I use Exact Audio Copy on Windows 10. EAC substitutes forbidden characters in Windows when creating file names. By default it substitutes "/:*? <>|
I’m using the Volumio’s CD ripping feature which you need to pay for.

Hi! The problem is that it was a couple of CDs of the 300+ I ripped and which are now stored in a box hidden away in the basement. This means that it would take me a long time to find the offending CDs.
I think I might be able to reproduce this manually, by adding a question mark to the end of any tracks name. This should create a file name that is invalid. Will let you know how it turns out
Sorry for a red herring! The problem was not caused by question mark, but in fact a colon :
On the screen shot you can see, that track 14 has an offending name.
