Volumio working perfectly on a Raspberry Pi Model B, most problems now overcome by following tips and tricks from this forum.
Most of my music library was created on a Windows PC using iTunes to rip my CD collection as AAC files or mpeg-4. Some material was purchased online as mp3 or wav, some from Apple iTunes store in Apple Lossless (ALAC) format. I understand that purchased ALAC will not play due to licencing restrictions.
Volumio finds all the directories (Windows folders) and recognises all the mp3 and wav files, they play correctly. The other file formats are just not picked up, even though the directories are listed. This is the same whether the files are on my NAS or on a USB stick on the R Pi.
I can play all file types through Volumio using Airrplay.
just bought a UDOO board, encouraged by your description of its potential. Now I’m in the same boat here, most of my files don’t play. Would like to move from MacMini to UDOO I2S + Volumio. For this transition to be possible, some important features are missing:
m4a playback
I2S output support on UDOO
And this one would be great as well, since I could play them all with Audirvana on the mini:
For the last year or so I’ve had volumio 1.55 running in a B model in the car, and a B+ at home, that both use the HiFiBerry DAC.
I really like Volumio it’s so easy to use and seems to play most audio formats without issue. Most of my music is in stereo FLAC format and the sound quality is great.
I have a DVD-A recording in a 4 channel MLP lossless file format. It plays fine through VLC media player and through the audio card in myPC, and the sound is stereo (transcoded?).
Volumio seems to play everything in stereo, except when it plays this MLP file, it seems to play in mono, and doesn’t sound very good. Is volumio capable of playing this file? (In stereo?) It’s just that I was expecting volumio to play it in stereo like everything else
