Airplay plays at lower volume than local files

Hi

I have set up the latest version of Volumio to use with Tidal via Airplay on an iPad. Streaming works fine.

Problem is the volume is significantly lower over Airplay than it is when Volumio plays (for example) FLAC files off USB attached storage. I can max the volume on the iPad and increase it on the Mojo to get Airplay to a listenable level, but if I were to then play any other source on Volumio the volume will be far too high.

I searched the help forums and found these posts discussing a similar issue but have not been able to solve the issue.

Hi, I’ve found a solution for this problem. ssh: cd /home/volumio sh webuiupdate.sh reboot With this update the volume problem has vanished!

Similar problem here. I am using a nice USB DAC with software-controlled hardware volume. Sound is top notch when playing files through Volumio. Now on the AirPlay side, when adjusting the volume on the AirPlay source (e.g. an iPad), this doesn’t change the volume on Volumio. It reduces the volume on the AirPlay source before being send through AirPlay. Which is awful because it is purely digital volume (it reduces the number of bits the audio is encoded in). I believe there is some change…

Any thoughts on how to sort this appreciated.

DAC: Hifiberry Digi I2S hat with optical out to Chord Mojo

Switching to a different DAC seems to have solved the issue. Now using a dragonfly red over USB instead of the mojo via optical I2S hat.
