I pay for spotify. I bay £9.99 a month. When I listen to spotify on my Volumio, i occasionally have to listen to adverts. This is bad! Is it supposed to work like this?

No, it’s not. I’ve been using Spotify with Volumio for a long time and never heard an ad. It looks like you’re based in the U.K., I wonder if that has something to do with it. I’m in the U.S.
The Spotify plugin only works with a Spotify Premium account, and with that account type you should never hear any ads.
