Activating of HifiBerry DAC without Web UI

Hello!

I have a HfiBerry DAC connected to my Raspi. Unfortunately I can’t activate HifiBerry using Web UI.
I tried to start the I2S driver from WebUI, but after reboot it not possible to choose any audio output.

  1. Which files I need to run HifiBerry DAC and where can I get these?
  2. It is necessary to modify a config file after adding the files?

Greetings
ONormahl

I had the same problem with the 1.1, and I had to reinstall the v1 for use the Hifiberry

had the same, raspyfi does better then volumio
see
hifiberry.com/products/dac/h … -software/

Hi!

(Excuse my poor english!

Try the following:

Connect via SSH to your Volumio,

sudo apt-get update sudo apt-get install git-core sudo apt-get bintutils sudo rpi-update sudo reboot

After the reboot activate the I2S Driver via WebUI.
Then connect via SSH an do

sudo nano /etc/modules

make sure the /etc/modules contains the following:

snd_soc_bcm2708 snd_soc_bcm2708_i2s bcm2708_dmaengine snd_soc_pcm5102a snd_soc_hifiberry_dac

Exit nano with Ctrl-X and save the modules file.

Reboot volumio and enjoy your DAC-Sound

I don’t own an Hifiberry DAC but have my DIY DAC hooked up with I2S to my Pi an it works like a charm

I hope this will work for you!

Yes, this procedure is correct. In next version everything wiil be working again.
Ps: I am really interested in knowing more on your DIY I2S DAC!
Let us know!

Thank you all for the info!

I have just reinstalled volumio1.1beta in a 8gb sd card and proceeded with the instructions. When finishing apt-get install git-core it shows:

Is everything ok?

Yeesss, now everything is up&running!

Somehow with 1.1Beta I feel music now sounds with a higher volume, could it be? I will try to toast the previous image in another sd card and compare volumes…

Hi!

nice tor read about your succes!

Many thanks for your interest!
It’s actually more like a modular development-platform, used to determine different DAC topologies,
espacially analog outstages and things like ASRCs on the digital side.
Started almost 5 years ago with my search for the ‘holy grail’ of most natural music reproduction using digital sources… :unamused: a never ending story of course
At the moment my DAC consists of an RPI feeding I2S into an AD1896 ASRC, an standard 50ps oscillator providing masterclock for the ASRC and the DACs,
two Ti PCM1794 DACs in mono configuration, I2S isolated via ISO7240 from the noisy digital ground of the digital frontend (RPI, DIR, ASRC and so on.) Symmetrical I/V conversion after the DACs is done via mosfets a’la nelson pass, followed by differential amplifiers utilizing ECC88 tubes.
Beside this an quite a bit overdosed Power supply feeds the “ensemble”…

Maybe i’ll post some photo of this mess someday…

Hello!
I try to ask for help here, too, I had an exchange of information with Daniel Cazy Audio of the non-functioning diHifiberry DAC. It made me do a lot of testing, but so far have not been able to listen to any song! :frowning:
I try to list the various attempts that I made:
I first tried the latest version delsw Volumio Beta 1.1
then I did the updates as indicated in the post above … but nothing!
Daniel then advised me to go to the Beta1
remade all the steps to update firmware etc etc … but nothing!
Via enclose the latest evidence that Daniel made me do it … he claims he is not a hardware problem but a software problem.
Thanks for the help that you can give me

In /etc/Modules must be another module at the end, search hifiberry website for how to configure linux system

Sent from my Nexus 4 using Tapatalk

I know that in the file /etc/modules/ configuration is different, the last line must be snd_soc_hifiberry_dac "… but when I change it and then I’m going to activate I2S Web page Volumio and then I reboot, it changes with what I posted above.

Place for completeness also the release of “demsg”

First activate it on volumio gui, and after that edit modules and reboot

Use the beta1, then activate the i2s driver. Then reboot. It works. Don’t update the firmware .

For the others, the problem on beta 1.1 resides on different naming of the i2s modules. You should be good to go by just editing /etc/modules

nano /etc/modules

and making it look like that

snd_soc_bcm2708 snd_soc_bcm2708_i2s bcm2708_dmaengine snd_soc_pcm5102a snd_soc_hifiberry_dac snd_soc_rpi_dac

Save with ctrl+x and reboot. Don’t enable i2s modules again!

Thank you very much, it works like a charm

This was just what I needed to get the hifiberry running. Maybe this subject could be a sticky ?

And Hi to the forum
